1992 Mercedes-Benz (W201) 190D 2.5 Auto Vehicle Sale Price: £SOLD
Legendary OM602 5-Cylinder Diesel with Rare Automatic Transmission Only 126,075 Miles - Superb History (26 Stamps) - Beautiful Condition Gleaming 199 Blue/Black - Grey Check Interior THE CAR FEATURES SUMMARY The W201 190D 2.5 with automatic transmission was a difficult car to obtain when new, and waiting lists were always long, so thirty years on, it's an even rarer find, especially with such low mileage. This has been my car since 2015; I bought it from a Diesel specialist Technician who worked for many years at Mercedes' UK HQ, and had owned her twice. Since around 2016, she's resided in my (dry) garage at home for much of that time. I did lots of work on her when I acquired the car, infact I'd actually forgotten just how much I'd done, until I went around the car on Tuesday. However, since late 2018, she's mainly sat unused in the garage, and since the beginning of the lockdowns in 2020/21 she hardly turned a wheel; that was until Tuesday of this week (29/06/22). Although she'd been started and run a little during the hibernation, the last time she'd been started and let run properly for a while, was about 7 months; I reconnected the battery, turned the key and she sprang into life immediately, no wobbles, no missing, no smoke, just an instant even diesel idle, with that distinctive 5-cylinder "oily purring" only these engines make; I actually came across the term "Oily Purring" whilst reading a Thomas The Tank Engine book to my older son when he was a Toddler, and always thought how it perfectly described how these MB OM6XX engines sound when they're in fine health. I then, on a bit of a whim, decided to take her for MOT, which she passed immediately. These are quite amazing cars, and I'm finding myself questioning whether I really should be selling her, as decent examples of 190D 2.5 are super thin on the ground in 2022, and the chances of finding another like her are now remote. However, as MTSV has grown the increasing need for more space is pressing, so very, very, very reluctantly I'm going to let someone else be the next custodian of this most incredible machine. I'm going to run her around for a week or so to shake down any potential issues, then carry out a small service as well as replacing a few other precautionary items, and she'll be (sadly) ready to go.In the meantime, I'll update the photos on this page to more recent images, so keep checking back, although I have to say she hasn't changed during her hibernation. MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. Specialising in Classic Mercedes from the late 1970’s, through to the 2000’s, I also frequently have the odd foray into other quality classics and sometimes even modern cars, however the qualification is always that it has to be interesting, and/or just a little different; my theory, which has served me well so far, is that if I like it, someone else probably will! My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too. MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too. THE MTSV DIFFERENCE Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice…I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
