1991 Mercedes-Benz (W201) 190E 1.8 5sp. Manual Vehicle Sale Price: £TBA
Only 61K Miles - Superb History - Immaculate Condition Elegant 147 Arctic White - Black Check Interior All Big Jobs Done (Headgasket, Heater Matrix etc) THE CAR FEATURES SUMMARY Supplied by Greenoaks Mercedes, Croydon in November 1991, this beautiful 1991 Mercedes W201 190E comes from the pinnacle of the production life of the W201 model range. It’s had four owners since, and came to me from a good friend of mine, who has a knack of finding exceptional vehicles. Over the years I’ve bought ten of his cars, and all have been superb examples of their respective type, and this one is certainly no exception. As you can probably see from the pictures, this is a beautiful example, both on top and underneath. In the last couple of years, in the tenure of the last owner, all the important jobs have been covered, namely the Head Gasket as well as replacement of the heater matrix. Both these jobs were carried out by a Mercedes Master Technician. In addition to this, the exhaust system and tyres have all been replaced too. As you'd expect of an extremely well maintained 190E, the car drives superbly. Also, don't be put off by the fact it's a 1.8. Despite what many say, I've found in reality, most people can't tell the difference between an early 1.8 (113bhp) and the later 2.0 (118bhp) during normal real world everyday driving. I've actually demonstrated this with a few skeptical customers in the past, by having them drive a 190E 2.0 and a 190E 1.8 back to back, without telling them which was which, and the vast majority can't differentiate between the two! In actual fact, I’d say a well maintained and properly set-up 1.8, feels livelier than a less than a less well looked after 2.0. Also with this vehicle having the rarer 5sp manual transmission, it allows the driver to get more out of the car, and actually makes for quite a pleasant and involving drive. In addition to this that extra gear, as well as giving the car “longer legs” for motorway cruising, also has the net effect of returning surprisingly good fuel economy too. I’ve seen 40mpg plus from this car if driven reasonably sympathetically. So, in summary a gorgeous low mileage, highly cosseted and incredibly well sorted example of what I think was Mercedes' best car of the last thirty years at least. The W201 is finally achieving the recognition it truly deserves, as a landmark model that saved the company itself. As such, values of quality examples have risen markedly, as their profile increases and the supply of quality vehicles continue to dwindle. So, it's a fair assumption that a nice Mercedes W201 190E is a very wise investment at the moment, with the potential appreciate considerably more, than traditional investments. MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. Specialising in Classic Mercedes from the late 1970’s, through to the 2000’s, I also frequently have the odd foray into other quality classics and sometimes even modern cars, however the qualification is always that it has to be interesting, and/or just a little different; my theory, which has served me well so far, is that if I like it, someone else probably will! My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too. MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too. THE MTSV DIFFERENCE Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice…I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
